HEROES FOR CHILDREN CHOSEN AS RECIPIENT FOR MEDICAL CITY DALLAS HOSPITAL'S FUNDRAISER

Employees To Raise $100K for Pediatric Cancer Patients' Families

June 1 marked the beginning of Medical City's Annual Community Project, an employee-driven campaign that raises funds for a designated, local non-profit.  This year, the hospital's Employee Advisory Group chose to partner with Heroes for Children, a Richardson-based non-profit that provides financial and social assistance to families with children battling cancer.

"Being chosen as the benefitting organization is an honor for Heroes for Children, because our organization was born at Medical City," said Jenny Scott, co-founder of Heroes for Children.  "Both Larissa's daughter Taylor and my daughter Allie received wonderful care and treatment from Medical City Children's Hospital throughout their battles with cancer.  The funds raised throughout this campaign will directly help families at Medical City and around Texas as their children undergo cancer treatment."

This is the eighth year of Medical City's Annual Community Project.  If met, this year's goal of $100,000 will bring the total raised more than $1 million.  Past recipients have included Wilkinson Center, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the North Texas Food Bank.

"Medical City's Annual Community Project is my favorite time of year" said Bianca Jackson, communications coordinator.  "Our employees, physicians, and volunteers are relentless in their pursuit of the goal because we know that when we meet our goal, the organization that we're supporting can further fulfill their mission to make a difference in many lives.  To be able to support Heroes for Children, an organization that was birthed right here at Medical City, makes us even more passionate about the project," said Jackson.

Medical City's Annual Community Project kicked off Tuesday, June 1, and continues until August 31.  More than 80 departments within the hospital participate, holding fundraising events including bake sales, bike races, and golf tournaments.
